soiled but sweet

Benny watches out for me and insists on washing my windshield for his meal. He is part of God's Army as his hat implies.
Tammy reaches the depths of my heart on her lucid days. On other days she is a slave to her addiction and will tell people anything to get a buck.
Jim and Marvin...Jim is the kindest, gentlest person I have ever met. His heart is made of gold. He is missing part of his tongue from cancer, but he continues to smoke. Marvin is only homeless part-time. Both of these gentlemen are veterans and have fought overseas for our country.

Sloppy Joes...a meal that is often requested and one I am happy to oblige them with. These are a few of the homeless people I feed on Fridays. They bless me with their stories, their smiles, their hugs, but mostly for just who they are. Some of them are alcoholics, addicts, lost souls and outcasts...but they are also victims of public judgment. They sleep behind dumpsters and in abandoned buildings. They all have a story of hardship, but any one of them will readily tell you how God has blessed their lives. Of the twenty or so that I regularly feed, these and two or three more not pictured (including Earl!) are my favorites...but in my heart, they are ALL special.

I know these people!!! and yes, they are such sweet gentle souls, that society has marked them, but these same people who have them marked might not realize it...but they just might see them heaven, and they WILL be brothers & sister's then, just like they are now!!! where you see one of these sweet people, you will find the rest of the gang...always together!! I love you dear sweet friend of mine Joni, how blessed I am to have you for a friend! Remember when Earl said he recognized me by my nose piercing!!! Stay warm tonight.
Love you bunches

You've brought them many smiles, I'm sure of it. Thank you for sharing these photos of your wonderful, special, friends.

I received your valentine package and Beans was the first one to test taste the treats. She offered me a heart and I told her I didn't think I wanted a bite right then, so she said, "I'll wick the sugar off of it for you Nanaw, ok" Wasn't that sweet?
Thank you so much for the treats!!!!

Your photos are all so amazing, and these are especially so. What stories you can see on these faces. One of the ways God has blessed their lives is with you.

Joni, you are an angel for what you are doing. My ex-husband is about to become homeless in two weeks...something that I have soooo very afraid of happening for the last 3 years. It breaks my heart that this is going to happen to him... so even though it 'scares' me to read about what you are doing because it reminds me of him and his situation, I am grateful that you are doing God's work to help show humanity to these people. God bless them..and God bless you, Joni.

Ok, that really touched my heart. I know that God has a really big mansion for you in Heaven, I only hope I can be one of your neighbors. Thank you for being such an example, and such a kind spirit. Thanks for being you! You know how I feel, every one has a story, and some of us are just luckier than others. I am certainly one of those. I have been so lucky in my life and so blessed, don't know how strong I would be if I had to face half the things those people deal with. Ready to start a mission (safe haven) for those people?

Joni, you are a sweetie for coming by and wishing me a Happy Birthday and an absolute ANGEL for what you're doing with your friends.

I'm getting close to some of the inmates at the jail and even though they are criminals and haven't had the best life, they are human beings. We love them don't we?

Soiled but Sweet is so appropriate and I hope I can remember to use this. It's wonderful.
