End of Summer

It's friday alright. I can feel the exuberance in the air from those who have had to work and go to school all week. I can appreciate their sighs of relief because I know next friday it will be my turn to be thankful for the weekend. It was nice getting out of town yesterday. Erik and I went to San Francisco for the day and then we drove to Berkeley so he could check out the university scene. In November he will be applying for the grad program at 4 universities and Berkeley happens to be one of them. The weather was wonderful. It was only 78 degrees and we were loving it. We just walked around to soak up the culture and we had delicious sushi for lunch in Japan Town. We were going to do some shopping on Market Street but couldn't find a parking place so that is when we decided to drive to Berkeley. After we got back home, Erik checked out the housing costs and they weren't that bad. If this is where he actually gets accepted he will easily be able to sustain himself. It was a quaint little college town alive with kids and coffee houses tucked away in the coastal hills not too far from the freeway. My only worry is that he wants a motorcycle to get around in and I just do not want him to buy one. He has absolutely no experience on a motorcycle and thus far has honored my wishes but is beginning to talk as though he plans to get one and I haven't quite figured out if he is joking with me or preparing me. The traffic is crazy and there is very little protection on a motorcycle, not to mention we have lost close friends from motorcycle accidents who were far more experienced at driving them. I just don't feel good about it, but I realize he is an independent adult (21 in Oct.) and can do whatever he wants so I have been praying very hard that his mind will be changed. I always support the kids in their decisions, but I am going to struggle with this one. Well, I need to get busy in the house and outside before it gets hot. I changed the options so that you do not have to be a blogger to leave one, although I am wishing more of my friends did have a blog so that I could know what is going on in their lives because you know how lazy we are about calling each other.
