...and then there's Monday

a very unique dining experience at the winery

I had such a nice weekend. I've never seen so many English teachers (about 550) gathered in one spot...lol, undoubtedly a student's worse nightmare. Friday evening one of the textbook publishers chartered a bus and treated about fifty of us to a gourmet dinner at
Testarossa Vineyards and then we heard the amazing storyteller, Diane Ferlatte afterwards. Saturday I spent my entire day attending workshops put on by teachers, authors and guest speakers and the best part was all the freebies! They held a new teacher's reception where there were tables lined up with FREE books and you could have as many as you wanted! Collectively, through the various opportunities I ended up with 5-6 new books and about 50 lesson plans (yes, I was a bit too conservative!). I LOVE books and I tried to select them with my students in mind because I want to have an assortment available to the them.

nice view of the mountain range

This was the view from my seventh floor window...nothing too exciting.

the perfect reading spot This is where I snuggled in to get my homework finished late at night so I wouldn't have any regrets once I got home.

Marriott parking lot

This is what the weather looked like as I was leaving this afternoon...wet and cold...time to go home!

Who knows if I will get to attend next year. The California Association of Teachers of English (CATE) meets once a year in new locations and next year it will be in Los Angeles, about an 8-hour drive for me and while I definitely think it is worth the trip, I don't know if I will want to drive that far! Maybe if I can get an inexpensive round-trip ticket I will fly!

Free books, what a deal! Glad you had a good time. I would be intimidated with all of those English teachers around. I'm afraid they would be correcting my grammar all the time, LOL!

Oh that is awesome!!! What a great way to get free books AND have a good time. Did you have to get a U-haul to get all that stuff home???? It sounds like you had a very nice relaxing time! I am going to feed the fish now!

My niece Lisa is a teacher also! She's the one on my page that I have the baby countdown for. She teaches High School and lives in Alaska. She also is a book lover and has her own book review site called Bunags Books.

I sometimes wonder, like Donna, what runs thru teachers minds with our grammer. Do you cringe and want to correct, or do you just accept it without judgement that this maybe is just our own style and it shows our personality? Just curious *smiles* Have a great week! ღ♥

I posted and it went into cyber space. Bummer. It was a good comment, too! Anyhow, what I said was good for you getting some great freebees. And it's cold here. And I'm glad to be home safe and sound, and I'll bet you are too! I'll try again.

What a great opportunity!! And FREE BOOKS!! Woohoo! I had a chance to go to the IRA in Atlanta last year for the first time and it is such a wonderful opportunity to be able to attend a conference and meet with fellow teachers and share, laugh and visit together!

Thank you for your sweet comment today, dear Joni. You need to know that they brought a smile to my heart. Thank you for that gift.
You are an angel.
