looking forward

January 1st...a cold wintry day with no plans...a rare opportunity to just BE I love the new year and the sense of renewal that comes with it. I enjoy finding planners and books that inspire me to write about all that is precious in my daily observations. This Simple Abundance Journal of Gratitude is a treasure I found wherein I hope to be disciplined to write everyday...just five simple things I am grateful for on a daily basis. Do you keep a journal of special thoughts or memories or a notebook with favorite quotes or bible verses?

The Simple Abundance Journal of Gratitude by Sarah Ban Breathnach

I found this planner with my name on it, so naturally I had to have it. It's full of inspirational bible verses and stories out of the life of author and artist Joni Eareckson Tada. It even has spaces for prayer requests and places to jot down goals ~ I think it will help me stay organized (not one of my strong points).

a daily stack of books to reflect in, plan out my days, help with organization, and capture the simple pleasures of the day For Day 1, it was difficult to limit myself
to five things I am grateful for.
There is so much that fills my heart ~
Scroll over the photo to see today's entry:

today's simple gratitudes: a good night's rest, a fresh outlook, a warm snuggly bed, no alarm clocks, feeling safe Another fresh New Year is here…
Another year to live!
To banish worry, doubt, and fear,
To love and laugh and give!

This bright new year is given me
to live each day with zest…
to daily grow and try to be
my highest and my best!

I have the opportunity
once more to right some wrongs,
to pray for peace,
to plant a tree, and sing more joyful songs!

~ William Arthur Ward

I hope everyone had a nice New Year's celebration!
Mine was very quiet and low-key with good food, good company and a good movie!

Joni, I always buy new notebooks, new calendar book or diary at the beginning of the new year. Everything is so fresh and new, so full of hope. It doesn't take me long to mess it all up though! I did buy a new notebook today to write thoughts and gratitudes in.

We are finished with day two of our three day drive to Florida. We did about 540 miles today, and that is too much for my FMS. I get too achy and then suffer for days. Glad we'll be there tomorrow~

Happy New Year to my new friend!

When I was working in an administrative capacity, I loved getting the new calendars each year. Shoot, at this job, I don't even have a desk. I DO have one at home and I think I'll go out and get all renewed this weekend and purchase notebooks!

How did you get your gratitudes to shop up when I scrolled? I think I missed a link. I love the "Joni" book. How'd you do that? LOL. Just full of questions here...

Good post, hon!

I dont have a journal, but I always said "I'm going to get me one" it might not be a journal, but I think a note book will work. Yours is very pretty, and I loved the poem as well. I love you!

Thanks for sharing all of your special "finds". I love journals and planners as well. It's been a while since I had a new one though, and you've reminded me how much I need one! I do believe I'll treat myself to that for this new year. I love the quote about gratitude from your book. It turns chaos to order and confusion to clarity, makes sense of our past, . . . I like that. Happy New Year

Ah, yes, I do keep a diary/journal each year, Joni. I have been keeping it since I was a teenager, and someone gave me a five year diary.

I also have a notebook (cloth bound) in which I write inspirational thoughts, quotations, bible verses etc. Very precious. I am onto my second, I started the first when I was at school/uni and became a christian, and those thoughts were so very precious to me back then! (Of course they still are)!

I was just thinking today, I had better go buy this year's diary. (Some years I had to use a notebook, because I was too poor to buy a proper diary)!

ps Do you ever find yourself transported back to those times, when you sit and read old journals. I can get quite carried away, and when I "come back to earth" I am sometimes confused about where on earth I am !!! Always a very strange feeling!

I have not ever kept a journal. I, like so many others, have the intentions of doing so but never kept up with it. I did really want to keep a graditude journal, I think that would be a great mind set. We will see....probably not! When does school start back up? The end is near, you must be getting excited!!

Joni - such an inspiration you are to all of us. I don't keep a journal perse', but do try to write something most days. We all do truly have so very much to be thankful for. ((HUGS))
