Ah...it's Friday. It's also my FREE day to get my house up to par from the past few days that have been cRaZy busy. I am always amazed at how fast it can fall apart (some days I'm pretty sure it's a conspiracy). Yesterday I went by the Red Cross to see if I could get some blankets for my downtown friends and I left there very disappointed. They said the last cold spell we had emptied their stock of blankets and the Salvation Army is out of them too. Unless schools and churches have blanket drives there will be no blankets for the winter. So I've decided to tell my friends the bad news tonight...but...I am going to tell them if they can manage to save $10.00 out of the checks they receive on the first of the month (or however else they get their money) I will pitch in the rest to buy them each a blanket. Wal-mart has blankets for about $12. I think this is a good idea because they might be less likely to lose their blankets if they have paid for them and they have no means to get to Wal-mart so I am doing the footwork for them. I was also thinking about teaching the ladies how to knit simple scarves and things and then helping them sell the finished product. I have to think about this one for a while longer. I'm not sure if knitting needles are a good idea to have around, maybe I'll see what they think.
Tonight's menu: meatloaf and mashed potatoes.

Can I come to dinner?
Maybe it's time for the community to have a blanket drive. I'll bet there are loads of poor families too who could use blankets.
I havent forgotten about the blankets on my end, I will look and give you a call...k? I think your idea of having them pitch in some money for their blankets is great idea and a smart one too, noe about those knitting needles..... I'm not to sure about but you know them better then any of us do, please give them my love.
Love Nettie
Just like you, I sure hate to think of people being cold. It's so sad!
You're a smart lady, and maybe the idea of them pitching in will help them to appreciate their blankets more. Be safe tonight.
That is very very smart to try and have them accountable for the blankets. Like you, I think the knitting needles might not be a good idea to give to them. What is used as a weapon can be used as a weapon on them. Maybe let them knitt with you for an hour or so and then you take it back and forth each week. A lot to keep up with, but might give you all time together and keep everyone safe!
I bet they loved their meal today, blessing to you again.
I have not been in a very good mood past couple days, so I just don't feel like posting. I am fine, just need to get out of my funk and get over hurt feelings! Kids!
Joni, Can you e-mail me your address? I have lost it again.
Can I help with getting blankets for your friends?
I can't donate much because of my funds, but I would love to be able to give enough to get at least 4 blankets.
love nita
Meatloaf and mashed potatoes huh?Yummo
You are such a dear to worry about your friends staying warm. Does the salvation army or other second hand stores have any blankets for less money than Walmart? You are probably right about them paying for their own.
Hope you are having a good Sunday.
Stop by my blog and vote for your favorite halloween atc.
Thanks Joni
God Bless You

I think the blanket idea is great. I too think that the items might be easier to keep track of if they had to pay for part of it.
What were their responses to knitting?
Joni what a wonderful heart you have, makes me want to do a blanket drive at my church. It is amazing how one person can change anothers life with a simple act of kindness.
Many blessings to you!
