I absolutely love this time of year.
There is an awakening that occurs as nature makes a transition from the heat-soaked days of summer…an awakening that welcomes change…in weather, foods, health…too many things that vie for attention…that were put off or stifled from less-than-desirable temperatures. Over the weekend I managed to spend a little time in the garden digging around, pulling up scorched stems and trimming back overgrown branches. Beneath what the summer spent was a whole new collection of garden life to enjoy. Plants that saved their blossoms until now and little garden friends enjoying a moment of quiet time…no worries, no concerns…just appreciation for these days in September. I am always grateful for the fresh perspective that naturally arrives with fall. Even though it is a busier time of year for me, I feel like I have more energy to enjoy the everyday things. I look forward to the days ahead...the color change, the homemade soups, the cool breeze, making pumpkin treats, and even raking up the leaves ( I've always found that to be therapeutic)...I welcome it all!
What are some of your favorite things about fall?

I love the fresher air and the colors when we eventually get them. But Fall leads to Winter and it makes me feel sad when I know Winter is around the corner.
Oh, your pictures are beautiful!! I love cooler weather, but it hasn't happened here yet! :)
Beautiful! Our weather just got cooler today, and we're loving it! Fall is the time to reflect on the summer days and accomplishments, with an eye on preparing for hunkering down during the winter months. I love the smell of the crisp fall air and the beautiful foliage!
I was just thinking this morning as I was walking about what I like in fall. I love how the temperature changes a bit more quickly. I love the subtle color changes in the leaves as they go from a dainty transition to a dramatic sharp change. I love the smells as the last of the blackberries mingle with the pine needles and crunching leaves.
Blessings to you today my friend.
I agree... I love the gusts of wind... the sound of the leaves scattering... the chill in the air.
I didn't like the winds we had this weekend... 30 -40 mph. Hopefully, this weekend will be a preview of a beautiful fall weekend.
Hope you have good weather for Friday.
Going to the apple orchard, getting beautiful mums to decorate with.. Going for long drives to look at leaves that have changed from green to brilliant hues of red, orange and yellow.

my thoughts have been so similar....thinking how these days bring changes to all senses.....
even though we are still seeing temps in the low 100's:
i love the cool mornings sitting out having coffee on the porch, the colors making appearances in all the stores, changing decor in the house, having cider and eating pumpkin scones....and if we are lucky...making it up to oak creek canyone to actually SEE the colors of the leaves...
enjoy these days, dear joni...and thanks for sharing.
hugs,
kimberly
oh...and yes i like this one! :)
p.s......seems i remember that bottom plant from a post long ago on your blog when i first started reading....something about a plant you had given your dad? would love to know the name....it is beautiful!
xo
As we all know I HATE summer, to me summer is only good for making mint sun tea =) I am always in a better mood in winter, lighting candles, drinking nice strong coffee, listing to thunder roll through and the lightning I just simply LOVE...ahhh winter is comming yippy =)
Love, Nettei
p.s. I love the colors of fall though and I did notice the air smelt different this morning!
I love fall, can't wait for it to arrive. Man your pictures are gorgeous. I din't know you were quite the little photographer. All you picture taking people out there that make it look so simple and I work my tush off to get just an "ok" picture. It just isn't fair. Love your posting.
Fall is my favorite season of the year. I love the crisper morning air, the smell of drying leaves as I shuffle through the woods, the brilliant orange and yellow and gold on the forested hillside, and the slower pace of life as we get ready for our winter in the den.
Fall is also my favorite time to take pictures, and I'm just waiting for the right crispy sunny morning to get out on the trail and take some pictures.
Fall is also the time I think more seriously about making a quilt or some other project I've put off all summer.
And I love Thanksgiving. I love thanking God for all He has given us. And I love the family gatherings when the weather gets colder and the kids' sports are finished for another season, and we can actually get together with the grands!
Fall makes me want to bake bread, make soup, cook a turkey with stuffing, etc.
Can you tell, I LOVE FALL!
Kimberly,
I gave this plant (Sedum Cauticolum)one year to my dad for his birthday in October. It grew and grew, so a few years later he split it in half and shared it with me. It's a type of ice plant but the flowers which start to bloom in September reach their peak in mid October and are absolutely beautiful. I bet this plant would do well in Arizona...look around at Target or Home Depot, this is the time of year to find it.
thanks for the info, dear joni.....about your grandpa being called honey.....asher calls everyone "babe" cuz that is what he hears us all calling each other! :)
love it!
have a wonderful day!
love,
kimberly

I love going to the Fair. I enjoy the cooler weather and my friend and I eat those elephant ears (sugar dough) and walk and walk and then play Bingo.
I used to go with my Mom and we'd go look at all the animals and exhibits and the prize winners. And the food is outstanding! Ahh, wonderful memories.
I just love all your posts, hon! They always bring a smile to my face. Thank you!
