Amazed

I am amazed to watch my kids. Three years apart and their circles are finally getting closer together. I remember a time when I use to wonder if this would ever happen. They would always pick on each other and get easily annoyed by accidental intrusions to their personal space. Erik was always this brainy child who would get up first thing in the morning and watch the news. I think it was "Good Morning America". He would rather resort to logic and analytical numbers than be caught doing anything the least bit immature to his age. His conservative nature found little use for his sister's energetic antics. Kristin on the other hand would be the one launching peas across the dinner table in an attempt to smack her brother in the forehead. She would be the instigator of most things that got out of hand and we would get these serious looks coming from Erik that challenged our authority as parents. He seemed to be saying "Aren't you going to do something about that?" More often than not, Erik would shake his head in disbelief at what she had just gotten away with. We would quietly smile. Kristin would tag along during the boyscout years and hike every trail the boys would hike. I don't know if Erik ever noticed, but she always kept up. It wouldn't be long until they would start inviting each other to hang out. She's kind of outgrown dancing in front of the TV during commercials and toilet papering the houses of friends, but I have a feeling many of her future escapades will include her brother. At some point when neither of them were looking, they became friends.
