this little light of mine...

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

~ Marianne Williamson

This quote was in a movie I watched last night. When I looked it up I noticed the author had several books. Has anyone read any of her work? I think this is a very powerful statement and I'm taking some time to think about it. Isn't it funny the little things that catch our attention...forget the movie, the plot, the happy ending...I want to know about that quote that was on the wall in one of the scenes...lol...Am I the only one who does this?

No..you are not..I always get struck by those thigs..esp the quote from the end of the Gandhi movie...which I have on my blog!

I would be disappointed if there wern't something I can bring away from a movie like that...not that I get to go see many movies at all really.

Annie

ps Love the quote, and I too will have to think about it!

Boy that is a really deep one isn't it? I hate to admit but I do not know Marianne Willamson and have not read her books. Sadly when I watch a movie I want mindless, thoughtless movies. Too much drama in my real life, don't want to have to think when watching a movie any more. Thank you for sharing such a powerful posting!!

Joni,

I did the same thing! When I saw that movie I looked up the same quote too! It is really powerful.
I loved the movie by the way. I keep meaning to buy it. I've heard the author is sort of new agish but I love the quote.

LOL, Joni, you KNOW I see all kinds of things on the movie sets that I think most don't even pay attention to. Sometimes it amazes me that I notice small things like a butterfly that flits about just like it was the star of the movie and does ACT adding depth that I think probably goes unnoticed by most. Maybe we are all like that, don't know. I do know that advertisers place messages in commercials that we don't think we notice, but later we find we are influenced by them. Same thing with hospitals painting all the walls green.

Anyway, just wanted to tell you I enjoyed this post. I haven't read any of her books but she sounds like an author I would enjoy. Haven't seen the movie either but did see the clips of the little girl wanting to go to the spelling bee and how she got there. I'm sure it was an inspirational movie and one that our young folks... well, old folks too should watch.
