Tuesday's Treasure

These are rosary beads that belonged to my uncle...an uncle I never met, but my dad wanted me to have them. His name was Clayton and he was a fighter pilot in WWII...his plane was shot down and his remains were never found. There were only two possessions that were forwarded on...these rosary beads and a little bible that was practically worn out. Even though I'm not Catholic, I kind of like the idea that one can sit with a reminder in hand and reflect and pray and just pour everything out to God. Quite honestly I don't know how the beads are used, but I believe they function as a way to count through a prayer, but what is being counted is beyond me. (Annette, maybe you can attribute some knowledge here). I don't know if they make rosaries like this anymore, it is quite old, but I do know a man poured out his heart over them, until he died in the 1940's and I think about that when I am holding them.

Thanks for your kind comments on my blog today.

How very special to have this rosary. It is so beautiful and so old. My Father fought in WWII in 5 major battles. He was catholic. I glad that you hold it and remember that your uncle held it too. This is truly a special keepsake!

Hugs
Patti

I agree, it's a wonderful treasure. I'm reading "Eat, Pray, Love" where in some chapters the author talks about using the beads. To have something like this from a family member who treasured it so must hold an extraordinary place in your heart.

I love rosary bead's, I have some from portugal, Italy, that friends have brought back and even from Gutamala(spelling wrong,I know=))
I can explained how we use them, but anyone can use them in anyway they want, theres a series of prayers that go along with each bead, I'll try and find a pamphlet on it's usage from Father Larry. The ones you have a beautiful and so different, how lucky you are to have them now. Love always Nettie

I love what you wrote about these beads. Even though you didn't know your uncle, I believe you know his heart and how much he treasured these. It seems they have found the right person to belong to.

Your blog is so wonderful! I can see why my Mother, Patti @ Treasure Barn loves it so much! I am so touched by the Beads, I am not Catholic either but I love the fact that someone once held them and poured thier hearts out to God, I beleive I may need to get me a pair just to remind me of the need to pour out my heart to the Lord.

Thank you
I am adding you to my list

Blessings, Lori
