far away fridays
These are pictures of our family vacation in 2004 when we went to Maui. Regretfully, I couldn't find the ones I was looking for, but these will give you a general “peek” anyway. It was such a fun vacation for so many reasons…it was our first time visiting one of the islands and I can’t wait to go back. What a joy it was digging out these pictures…I was reminded of many happy moments. We were only there for 7 days, but we managed to squeeze in a little of everything. There is so much history on the islands. We hiked through the bamboo forest near Hana to get to the spectacular waterfalls, went snorkeling, visited volcanoes, and numerous other touristy stuff, but one of my favorite things was one of the day hikes we took through a wild orchard of guava trees. I can still remember the sweet scent in the air and how we picked and ate guavas all day long. They were so sweet and succulent that I swore them to be my favorite fruit. I was hooked on guavas for some time after that until I got reacquainted with our own valley peaches and nectarines. One of the funny things that happened on this trip (although it wasn’t too funny to me at the time), we rented a condominium and I had purchased a roll of aluminum foil for cooking and when I was packing to come home I naturally tossed it in my suitcase not thinking anything of it…BIG MISTAKE. The officials at the Maui airport “discovered” my foil and searched all through my suitcase and then pulled me aside and had a female official search me and then to top it off, they exchanged my flight ticket with another one and made me board the airplane ahead of everyone else. My family thought it was quite funny and when I stood up in the airplane to take pictures, my husband told me to sit down because I had caused enough trouble…needless to say, I was very embarrassed. Hope you've enjoyed the catchy little beat...makes me want to do the hula dance!

What a great story. My parents went there this past year. We hope to go in a few years when our young one is a little bit older. I will remember not to bring aluminum foil though! :) Hope you are enjoying your weekend.
