End of Summer

Good morning sunshine! Another Monday in the making...the weekend certainly went by quickly. We attended Stephen & Becky's wedding. It was a lovely event and all of the kids looked real sharp. Erik was a co-best-man and his toast was very profound and touching. That was the only time I shed a tear. Stephen was blessed to have the musical talents of his grandparents available to him. They played jazz all evening and I kept thinking what an honor it was for Stephen. It isn't often grandparents play in a band. I hope he treasures that. It was fun watching Erik and Kristin dance together. I love to watch them laugh and ridicule each other in a loving way. Erik asked me to dance and it was fun after we got our timing down! Kristin asked her dad to dance as well but he declined. This really bothered me and is something I am going to need to pray about. How can a father say no to a daughter who is reaching out? I know he does not like to dance but sometimes we have to set our own comforts aside for the better cause. He truly missed out and probably does not even see it. I will pray that his eyes are opened so that he will be able to view (and appreciate) the light from different angles. The wedding was outdoors and it actually turned chilly. Everyone was wishing for a light sweater which is very rare for a California August evening. Yesterday Kristin and I went out for lunch and we went antique browsing. We had the best time. We visited a charming little boutique called Eric Michael's and they have floor to ceiling treasures. The owner and his friends were contagiously enthusiastic and friendly. The three men sat behind the counter and talked with customers. They sang "Happy Birthday" and "He's A Jolly Good Fellow" to whom I expect to be a complete stranger. They offered me wine to accompany my browsing and I thought that to be quite hospitable. Of course I passed on the wine but I still found many things that I could easily spend my life savings on. We had fun exploring their little shop and getting ideas. Needless to say we left there with smiles on our faces for many reasons. I didn't get many projects finished over the weekend but I have high hopes that this week will prove to be very fruitful. It is beginning to feel like the last push before school starts. Some of the kid's friends are leaving for college and every available hour must be spent with them. In fact, as I am posting this very thought, I have a houseful of girls sleeping in. Until things settle back down I feel very forunate that they would take time out to spend with me. I am happy that Erik and Kristin are attending a local Junior College and University. At least for a while longer. Erik will be applying to Stanford and UC Davis at the end of this year where he will go through their Graduate Program (wherever he gets accepted). Kristin has big plans as well but she needs a little more time in her pocket before her reality is realized. Well, I have a garden to water and suntea to prepare and Lacey is looking at me with those big brown puppy eyes that melt my heart so I will probably take her for a walk also. May your day be free from idle hands and blessed with creativity.
